THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS FOR ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES BEGINNING AUGUST
2009 IS NOW CLOSED. ALL VACANCIES HAVE BEEN FILLED.
Applications are invited for 12 Academic Foundation training
programmes commencing August 2009. There will be 12 posts available.
Both the F1 and F2 years will be delivered in Bristol. The F1 year
will comprise either 3x4 month posts or 4x3 month posts. The
F2 year comprises 3x 4month posts one of which is a dedicated 4
month academic placement. All rotations include posts delivering
high quality clinical service and training in acute medicine and
surgery. All programmes will deliver training for postholders to
achieve a range of academic competencies and the clinical
competencies required by the Curriculum for the Foundation Years in
Postgraduate Education and Training and for full registration with
the General Medical Council.
Academic posts are in specialties including Endocrinology,
Nephrology, Medical physiology, Public Health/Clinical Epidemiology,
Surgery, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and General Practice. For full

Candidates must be eligible for provisional registration
with GMC by 1 August 2009.
Applicants must submit a supporting letter from their
Medical School with their application
Applicants are required to provide evidence of their
academic ranking in their medical school by either their academic
quartile (as provided to the national online application system),
their overall ranking in their year, or a copy of their up to date
grade transcript.
The programmes are suitable both for final year medical students
who have made firm decisions to commit to an academic career and for
those who wish to explore their potential for a career in medical
research and/ or education in their foundation programme prior to
applying for specialty training.
The successful candidates will be appointed to a two year
Foundation Training Programme within the Severn Foundation School.
The Postgraduate Dean confirms that these training programmes
have the required educational and Dean’s approval.
All training programmes are equally open to those who may, either
from the outset or subsequently, wish to train flexibly.
